It’s cold in here: Web site vs. website
I think hell just froze over.
This just in (OK, about an hour ago, so sue me), directly from the Twitter page of @APStylebook:
Responding to reader input, we are changing Web site to website.
Make note, news and grammar buffs, because the AP Stylebook folks have finally caved to overwhelming public pressure. It happens less frequently than a blue moon, but it just happened. It’s a good thing, but I’m going to have to wrap my brain around this (or perhaps rap my brain). You know how hard old habits die.
Happy trails!

Interesting! I had noticed that it was becoming more common to see “website.” I guess the AP Stylebook folks did, too. Do you suppose we’ll start using “internet” instead of capitalizing it in the future, too? Or has that already changed and I missed the memo?
For word geeks, the change to “website” is huge news, although a bit late. The AP folks would say that they don’t just jump on the latest bandwagon but take time to make decisions. Regardless, they just made a ton of people very happy. So far, “Internet” still has the uppercase “I” and I don’t see that changing anytime soon. But the nature of the English language is to change, so time will tell!
